Best Hair Transplant in MUMBAI

What is Hair Transplant?

Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from one part of the body, called the 'donor site', to a bald or balding part of the body known as the 'recipient site'.

The technique is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness. In this minimally invasive procedure, grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding (like the back of the head) are transplanted to the bald scalp.

Hair transplantation can also be used to restore eyelashes, eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair, pubic hair and to fill in scars caused by accidents or surgery such as face-lifts and previous hair transplants.

Since hair naturally grows in groupings of 1 to 4 hairs, current techniques harvest and transplant hair “follicular units” in their natural groupings. Thus modern hair transplantation can achieve a natural appearance by mimicking original hair orientation. This hair transplant procedure is called follicular unit transplantation (FUT).

What are the different Techniques of hair transplant?

There are different techniques like:
- Follicular Hair Transplant
- Follicular Unit Extraction
- Robotic Hair Transplant

The best option for you will depend on your individual needs and the recommendations of our Plastic surgeon.

A. Follicular Hair Transplantation

The FUT method of hair transplantation involves taking a strip of skin with hair follicles from the donor site, typically the back of your head where hair is naturally fuller and less prone to balding. From this skin, small groups of tissue containing hair follicles are separated and prepared for transplantation. While this is happening, tiny, individual holes are made in the recipient site where you are experiencing thinning or balding. The prepared grafts are then individually placed into the recipient site.

This method has been around for over two decades and was a revolutionary technique for restoring a natural looking hairline when it was first developed and for many years after. But while it provided previously unachievable results, Dr. Samir explains that this technique is not without its downsides. This type of surgery can take many hours, depending on the number of grafts placed, and there is no way to avoid the resulting horizontal scar across the back of the head. While healing, this incision will be prominent, and patients will need to take care of both the linear incision on the back of the head and the recipient sites during recovery.

B. Follicular Unit Extraction

FUE can give very natural results. The advantage over strip harvesting is that FUE harvesting negates the need for large areas of scalp tissue to be harvested, so there is no linear incision on the back of the head and it doesn’t leave a linear scar. Because individual follicles are removed, only small, punctate scars remain which are virtually not visible and any post-surgical pain and discomfort is minimized. As no suture removal is required, recovery from Micro Grafting FUE is less than 7 days.

Which technique is the best?

The FUE technique of hair transplantation was developed as a means to achieve the same results of FUT while addressing the disadvantages. Like FUT, FUE involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor site at the back of the head and moving them to create a fuller, natural-looking hairline. Unlike FUT, this method doesn’t involve removing a strip of tissue from the back of the head but rather collecting individual hair follicles directly from the scalp and inserting them into small incisions made in the recipient site.

While the detailed FUE technique requires more time in surgery, this method eliminates the linear scar and advanced wound care needed with FUT. The FUE method also lessens downtime and lowers levels of post-procedure discomfort.

Who is a good candidate for a hair transplant?

Men and women of all races can be good candidates for a hair transplant.

To be considered for a hair transplant, you need two things:

  1. Enough healthy hair on your scalp that can be transplanted to the area that needs hair
  2. The ability to grow hair on the thinning area of your scalp

During a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon, you can find out if you have both. A Plastic surgeon will give you a thorough scalp exam.

What happens during a hair transplant at Evolve Cosmetic Clinic in Mumbai?

You can expect a hair transplant to take between four and eight hours. If you are having a large amount of hair transplanted, you may need to return for a few hours the next day.

Most patients remain awake during the entire surgery and need only an anesthesia that makes the scalp numb. Some patients also take a mild sedative to help them relax.

Hair transplant surgery usually lasts between 4 and 8 hours. The surgery begins with your Trichologist removing the healthy hairs.

Before the surgeon can transplant the hairs, technicians need to prep the removed hairs and the surgeon must get your scalp ready for the transplant.

Depending on the number of hairs to be transplanted, two to three members of the hair transplant team may help place the healthy hairs into the area that needs hair. Once all the hairs have been transplanted, your scalp will be bandaged and you will be given instructions for at-home care.

When do patients see results from a hair transplant?

Most patients see results between six and nine months after surgery. For some patients, it takes 12 months.

It’s important to know that between two and eight weeks after the surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out. This is normal. By the third month, the hair may look thinner than before you had the transplant. Again, this is normal

Medicine can help you keep the results?

To get the best results from a hair transplant, your Plastic Surgeon may recommend medicine that treats hair loss. Medicine helps because hair loss and thinning can continue, even after a hair transplant. Medicine can prevent or slow down new hair loss and thinning. By doing that, you can keep your natural-looking results for years to come

Is Hair Transplant Permanent?

Yes. In fact, that’s the main reason why hair transplantation is considered the most effective option for restoring your hair. During surgery, our trichologist use your own healthy hair follicles to fill in your thinning or balding areas. These transplanted hairs are resistant to the hormone that causes hair loss — dihydrotestosterone (dht) — and are considered permanent. Because the transplanted hairs are dht resistant, they’ll continue to grow even though the non-transplanted hairs around them continue to miniaturize and fall out.

Do hair transplants look natural?

A common worry among those considering hair transplantation is whether the results will look natural, especially if you’ve seen the results of bad hair plugs or other outdated techniques. fortunately, hair restoration technology has come a long way. in fact, evolve’s surgical hair transplants can produce results that look completely natural and are undetectable. that’s because our highly skilled surgeons use next-generation hair-by-hair restoration techniques to make sure your newly transplanted hair complements the natural growth pattern of your hairline and facial features.

Is a hair transplant procedure difficult?

A hair transplant is a simple office procedure. because it is completed in less than a day and involves minimal downtime, many patients return to normal activity in one to two days. Most of the effort involved in a hair transplant procedure involves working with you to design a natural-looking hairline to match your facial shape, features, and age, using the correct hair textures and placement. The complexity lies in the skill, artistry, and experience of your physician, who will re-create a head of hair that will look good for a lifetime.

Are there any side effects?

Risks and Side Effects Of Hair Transplants

Short-Term Complications & Side effects:

• Bleeding & Swelling Of The Scalp – Sometimes, after the graft has been placed, the scalp reacts to it and causes bleeding and swelling. This means that the scalp is taking time to adjust to the graft.
• Itching – The graft can cause itching in the scalp as it is from a donor. But with the right medication, the itchiness can be stopped.
• Infection – Infections in the scalp are rarely likely after hair transplant surgeries . An infection can occur due to the donor’s follicular unit as it moves from one scalp to another. However, prescribed antibiotics can help stop the infection.
• Shock Loss – It might take time for the scalp to get adjusted to the new follicular units. Almost all the grafted hair may fall out. This will naturally stop after some time, and new hair will grow back in its place.

Long-Term Complications

• Scalp Laxity – The amount of elasticity caused by tension that can be carried by the tissues underneath the scalp is called scalp laxity. During extraction, physicians might under or overestimate scalp laxity, which can cause disfigured scars that don’t heal.
• Graft Failure – Sometimes, the grafts or the area they are placed in don’t take to each other, or one rejects the other. This can only be resolved by replacing the graft. More recent grafts might fail to grow on the recipient’s scalp.
• Hair Curl – When it comes to curly hair, there are types, ranging from 2C to 4C. Sometimes, the donor unit might not curl the same way as the recipient’s natural hair. This can only be seen in a few months of the graft being placed.

Individuals undergoing hair transplants are asked to adhere to a few rules to ensure optimum results.
